Stromberg Garrigan & Associates, Inc., (SGA) is seeking a project planner and GIS specialist with zero-to-five years of community planning experience, preferably in urban environments, brownfields, and large-scale redevelopment projects. Our ideal candidate has supplemental experience and/or education with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as communications, sustainability, landscape architecture, architecture, or urban design. The successful candidate brings leadership abilities, passion, and verve to our multi-disciplinary collaborative design studio.

Our firm is a national leader in urban and community revitalization specializing in urban and brownfields redevelopment planning with projects located across the U.S. SGA’s projects are diverse, ranging from major urban centers, including the Cities of Philadelphia, Norfolk, Detroit, Pittsburgh and New York, to smaller cities and towns located throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and Mountain regions.

Job Responsibilities:

Support and contribute to project design work ranging from master planning and analysis efforts, primarily via geospatial analysis and map making;

  • Utilize enterprise GIS platforms to design online content management applications for presentation and surveying efforts;
  • Perform regular geospatial data inventory, management, and maintenance via public data servers;
  • Serve as a technical resource to support and manage tasks and projects;
  • Assist project managers in the development of presentations, technical documentation, master plans and reports;
  • Be responsive to managers and clients in support of project implementation; ensure timely, cost effective, high-quality service, and product delivery;

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in City and Regional Planning or Geography. It is desirable, but not necessary, for candidates to also hold a degree(s) in geographic information systems (GIS), computer science, communications, environmental sciences, horticulture, sustainability, landscape architecture, architecture, or urban design.
  • Proven experience with online and desktop GIS platforms.
  • Interest or experience preparing public presentations, technical documents, master plans and reports for neighborhood planning and civic design projects.
  • Interest or experience working with non-profit clients, community groups, government clients, and private clients.

Proficiencies:

  • English fluency (writing, speaking).
  • Exemplary writing, presentation, and verbal communication/public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Bluebeam, and O365 Office suite. (It is desirable that applicants have a high proficiency in all or most software packages listed to support the design studio’s work product).
  • Experience preparing and assembling presentations and report/plan document preparation and assembly.

  • Periodic and multi-day travel to site locations and to facilitate public engagement/meetings
