Cheat River Trail

SGA was retained by the non-profit Friends of the Cheat River organization to assist them in developing a comprehensive trails and greenways strategy for the watershed. Friends of the Cheat’s (FOC) mission are to restore, preserve, and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River watershed. SGA is currently assisting the FOC in acquiring a key former rail corridor from CSX for the creation of a 9 mile trail. The project includes determine the reuse potential and transfer agreement of a large rail viaduct over the Cheat River for trail use. SGA is also assisting the FOC in developing a former coal prep plant site located on the Cheat River for a new riverfront park, acid mine drainage treatment area and environmental education center.
