SGA was retained to develop a signature memorial demarcating the Mason Dixon Line’s crossing of the Great Allegheny Rail Trail from Cumberland, MD (that connects to the C&O Trail from Georgetown in Washington, D.C.) to Downtown Pittsburgh, PA. The project is also known as the Mason & Dixon Memorial. The project was partially funded by the National Park Service Foundation with the intent of interpreting the actual meaning of the line as a
dispute between three generations of the Penn and Calvert families over the exact location royal land grant from the King of England. The design speaks to the 1767 process of surveying and marking each mile along its 255-mile length.
WQED Pittsburgh PBS just released a video called the Great Ride about the bike trail that led to the memorial that SGA designed.
