Brownfields Redevelopment Plan

Client

City of Fairmont / Fairmont Coke Works Superfund Site Custodial Trust

Location

Fairmont, West Virginia

Years

2019-2020

The former Sharon Steel site is an approximately 97-acre federal superfund site owned by the Fairmont Coke Works Superfund Site Custodial Trust.

The site reuse plan was a synthesis of existing conditions and potential highest and best uses for the site to form the basis of attracting private investment to the site. The plan is part of a city-led master developer process to solicit investment from the development community. The plan highlights the substantial recreation opportunities, such as collegiate level sports fields mixed with other destination events and lodging oriented uses. SGA’s plan for the site responds to regulatory compliance aspects associated with its clean-up and site environmental conditions.

For more information on the history and evolution of the site, visit the Fairmont First Website.
