SGA served as the Prime Consultant for the Philadelphia City Planning Commission’s U.S. EPA Brownfields Area-Wide Plan focused on a reuse strategy for a series of post-industrial properties including the 65-acre former Philadelphia Coal and Coke property and the former Rohm & Haas (now Dow Chemical) property, both located on the Delaware River, as well as several sites along Frankford Creek in the Bridesburg and Frankford neighborhoods.
The project includes developing an overall reuse plan that includes significant habitat restoration and wetland mitigation areas, passive and active recreation facilities and the alignment of the East Coast Greenway. The project incorporates major initiatives of the Philadelphia Water Department to manage urban stormwater as part of its U.S. EPA correction action permit as a result of its city-wide combined sewer outfall (CSO) non-compliance.
