The Northeast Brandywine Riverfront in Wilmington, DE is home to a disadvantaged community which suffers from the presence of contaminated, underutilized, and vacant brownfield sites. This area has been the subject of many plans and initiatives, but with the recent award of an U.S. EPA Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Grant, the City contracted SGA to prepare an implementation-focused plan that will consolidate and build from the work that came before. The Steering Committee kick-off meeting took place on March 9th where stakeholders expressed their desire to realize the growth opportunities embodied in the community’s focal point – the riverfront, while maintaining it as an accessible neighborhood asset. The plan will seek to provide true opportunity, lift spirits, and demonstrate immediate positive impact.
