The community of the Carlisle Borough took on the redevelopment of three brownfield sites in 2013, including 65 acres of vacant property. The community opted to take the leap into the redevelopment process during a pitfall of economic devastation from 2008 to 2010 as their lead industrial facilities dealt with closure. Their commitment to reinvigorate the community with a multi-phased planning effort, led by SGA, proved to be a success when awarded substantial grant funding from the U.S. EPA’s Brownfields Area-Wide Planning program in 2013 for their Carlisle Urban Redevelopment Plan (CURP).
Seven years later, redevelopment activities are still going strong. To date, the combined project includes more than twenty million dollars ($20M) in federal and state funding and more than one hundred million dollars ($100M) in private investment.
